First Day of School
Washing Away Germs
During a science experiment, we learned that it takes about 20 seconds (or the Happy Birthday song sung two times) to wash away germs. We then covered our hands in lotion and glitter, which represented germs. We washed our hands with soap and water, sang the Happy Birthday song, and set a timer to see how long it took to get our hands clean from germs.

Germs on Surfaces
These are the results of an experiment about germs on surfaces. We wiped pieces of bread on different surfaces around our classroom and school. As you can see, some highly touched surfaces had lots of germs and made the bread rot faster. The bread exposed to sanitized and clean hands help us nicely. Hand washing and sanitizing does help to stop the spread of germs!!
🍁Collecting Leaves🍂
Seatbelt Safety
After learning about the importance of seatbelts, our class did an experiment to see if they really work. Using eggs in a Ziploc bag, we placed them inside toy cars. One egg was wearing a seatbelt made of tape and the other was not. Then we sent the cars down a ramp and into a wall. The egg wearing a seatbelt was perfectly fine, but the egg without its seatbelt did not survive.
🎃 Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere 🎃
Pumpkin painting, pumpkin carving, and an oozing pumpkin experiment.
Layering Parts of a Pumpkin
After carving a pumpkin and learning about its parts (inside and out), we layered corn syrup, water and food coloring, and oil in a container. One by one, we added the pumpkin parts to the mixture. As you can see, different pumpkin parts will float in the different layers.
👻 Happy Halloween 🎃
Getting Ready for the Holidays
The boys taking a car apart during a unit about NASCAR.
Learning about Gravity
During a unit about gravity, we dropped items of different weight, size, materials from the top of the staircase. We timed how long it took each object to fall and then compared the results.
Brain Hats 🧠
After learning about how our brains help us learn, feel, and think, we made brain hats. The brain hats helped us learn the parts of our brain and what the different parts do.
Human Body Unit
We traced our bodies on giant paper and have been learning about the different organs in our body, where they are located, and what they do.
🏈 Super Bowl Math 🏈
Making Slime
Mario Cart
After reading our current events newspaper article about the new Super Nintendo World theme park and its Nintendo-themed rides, we made Mario Carr steering wheels.
🌈 Walking Rainbow Experiment🌈
We did an experiment to see if we could make the rainbow using just red, yellow, and blue. Using cups and coffee filters, we watched as the coffee filters transferred water from one cup to another, creating the walking rainbow.

Spaghetti Towers
After reading a newspaper article about the new Luca movie, which is about a sea monster who loves spaghetti, we did a spaghetti tower challenge. Congrats to Nasir for building the tallest tower!
Octopus Experiment
This week in class, we learned octopus can fit through small spaces because they do not have bones. These pictures show us putting an "octopus" through a small hole. Then we made "octopus" hot dogs.
